Al Horford

Al Horford hails from Dominican Republic but currently plays center for the Boston Celtics. After attending high school in Grand Ledge, Michigan – leading his team to two district titles while holding multiple school records – Al relocated back home for college at Harvard.

Horford has long been one of the premier centers in the NBA. Additionally, he’s made significant contributions through charitable work — such as rebuilding basketball courts in his home town and youth clinics – in his community.


Al Horford is an impressive center who has had an accomplished NBA career. One of the tallest players in the league, his height has played a large part in his success as well as being an effective power forward who can match up well against bigger opponents while possessing an amazing basketball IQ.

He was selected third overall in the 2007 NBA draft by Atlanta Hawks, quickly becoming a starter and winning their championship that same year as well as several All-Star selections.

Since 2011, he has been married to Amelia Vega. Her father, Tito, played professional basketball in Dominican Republic before being recruited by Milwaukee Bucks and Washington Wizards during early 90s.


Horford is an enormous basketball player, yet his height and weight alone don’t account for his success on the court. His incredible basketball IQ allows him to adapt more readily than most other players can.

Horford excelled at high school basketball, setting several school records and being honored with the Class A Player of the Year Award. He attributes much of his success to both family members and teachers being there to support him in his efforts.

Horford has been an active participant on the Dominican Republic national team since 2008, helping win bronze at the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship. Furthermore, Horford and Amelia Vega have been married since 2011; both son Ean and daughter Alia currently play college basketball. Additionally, his father Tito played in the NBA while his brother Jon made brief professional appearances before being placed on inactive list in 2014.
